Grandstanding Meryl Streep Causing Further Division?

No doubt Meryl Streep is a talented actress. She has the right to her opinion and we as an audience have the right to voice our opinion that is how an open forum of communication works. There were many hurt feelings beyond Donald Trump’s after Streep received her Lifetime Achievement Award from the Golden Globes on Sunday. A little back story, many times artists are told ahead of time that they will be receiving an award in order to get them to appear on a show. Therefore, it is likely to assume that Meryl Streep was aptly prepared with a memorized speech in her head or helped remembered by the monitors. Although I agree with what she said in regards to Trump, I didn’t agree with what she said about the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) not being an art. One can like a whole pizza except for soggy crust.
Meryl Streep’s speech and the aftermath brought up some interesting points about whether or not she should have spoke out and up during her acceptance speech and who has the “right” to speak up and out about certain topics at all. After some heated twitter trolling, another photographer (Skittles) and I talked about Meryl Streep’s diss moment regarding Elitism and communication.

Amanda Nunes Is The Champion: Lessons From Rousey’s Loss

I’ve been away for awhile here. I’m back and its the Chinese Year of the Rooster which is ironic on many levels. Here is my take on the Amanda Nunes vs. Ronda Rousey UFC 207 mind blowing fight.

WORD On The Street: Conor McGregor Has Big Announcement After UFC205

Conor McGregor one of the hardest working sport stars  is scheduled to fight against UFC Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez on 11/12/16 in Madison Square Garden. The UFC returns to the Big Apple after a long absence due to union contract issues that Dana White was not going to pay. Endorsing Donald Trump and White’s speaking at the Republican National Convention, may have been the key to New York and the UFC repairing their feud over the union issues. Money talks eventually.

Here is the first edition of WORD on The Street a new segment covering the hottest trending topics. And here is my take on the pesky McGregor rumors that are currently rumbling and a little more insider chatter…

Stallone: On The Rumor George St. Pierre Is Ready To Rambo UFC & Dana White

kat-george-st-pierre-vs-conor-mcgregor

So I watched a recent UFC on FOX George St. Pierre interview where GSP said he was ready to come back but Dana White was being cheap by not wanting to update his fighting contract. The rumor is that White wants GSP to come back at the same pay rate as he fought when he left the UFC a few years ago. I sincerely hope that is not the case but learning about Dana White’s propensity of putting corporate sponsors first as well as the UFC brand being more powerful than anyone star, it is no wonder negotiations are at a stand still.  George St. Pierre is too smart to lose his endorsement deals that give him more money than fighting for the UFC under the old contracts and the recent UFC deal with Reebok. So could the biggest fight in UFC history be lost because of ego and greed? Probably.

But I heard a delicious rumor that GSP was going to return and a big fight match up could happen with Conor McGregor. So I asked Sylvester Stallone his thoughts on a possible match up.

WME-IMG About To Kick Ass With UFC

KAT-WME-Super-Agent

I’m breaking this down to the bare facts:

WME – the William Morris Endeavor is a Talent Agency whereas  IMG- is a Global Fashion (including Top Models), Event Planning & Sports Management Company. The two merged in 2014. The leaders behind the rocket ship known as WME-IMG are co-CEOs Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell. If your a fan of ‘ENTOURAGE’, the character Ari Gold played by Jeremy Piven is based on Ari Emanuel.

This is what I believe WME-IMG will bring to the UFC Brand:

  • Connections- WME Is one of the biggest agencies in the world.
  • They have some of the highest grossing talent (directors, composers, writers, producers. Actors/Actresses) in the history of entertainment
  • They have major Star Power- with top clients comes cross promotions in Film, TV, Radio, Fashion, Sports, Digital & Print media
  • Power People Answer Their Phone Calls – Big Deals Get done (especially when you have friends and family in high places Ari Emanuel’s brother Rahm is the mayor of Chicago and before that he was The White House Chief of Staff for President Barack Obama
  • They have a partnership with a Silicon Valley private equity firm – so they are on the forefront of new technology integration
  • Ari & Patrick are very aggressive at taking risks
  • They know EVERY ONE who is Any One
  • They are masters of packaging deals from the top to the bottom
  • Emanuel and Whitesell understand multi-level licensing/marketing/branding and they are always looking for more opportunities to bring in more money
  • WME-IMG see the growth capacity of Asia (including India)
  • China will be a huge market for business development in ever expanding and diverse markets. An example: there is the rumor that the reason Playboy stopped nudity in their magazine is because of China’s anti-pornography laws

The above are just a few reasons why WME-IMG will be more adept owners of the UFC.

One thing I am quite certain is that Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell will hire a proper sound engineer for all UFC press conferences/events and their production team will make sure top of the line microphones/speakers/equipment will be mandatory.

I see the UFC under the direction of WME-IMG being run a lot tighter and more professional from the top down. Lastly, I think they will kick the Reebok deal to the curb as soon as the contract is over.

UFC Pres Dana White Wears Suit Jacket @ RNC’s Coronation of Trump

KAT Dana White at RNC

So I’m sitting at a restaurant enjoying food and conversation with friends when I see Dana White on the TV screen endorsing Donald Trump after Trump won the Republican Nomination for the Presidency of the United States. I had to take a picture of the surreal moment. I noticed that casual Dana White who is normally wearing t-shirts while doing UFC press conferences, had thrown on a suit jacket with a dress shirt and no tie. White was keeping it classy.

I couldn’t hear what he was saying because the TV was turned down low and partially due to me yelling out loud. Although I was sober I was losing my composure watching the RNC spectacle. The musical group R.E.M. said it best, “Its the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine”.

It makes sense Dana White would endorse Trump both men support non union workers. Both men have had a recent surge in their bank accounts and social prominence or should I say dominance.

Just a few months ago I saw Dana White in Beverly Hills during the finale of DWTS and while the Conor McGregor being pulled from UFC 200 was at the height of the controversy.
